And organizing. And cleaning. And organizing some more.
I fix my system for one thing and it seems to upset something else. I buy a new chest of drawers, and have to rethink my entire storage system! I organized my area only weeks ago, for a studio tour video on YouTube and, before it went live, I'd already changed my system three different times.
And then there's the rest of the house. The carpet cleaning, scrubbing floors, washing curtains, moving the fridge and stove, cleaning inside the stove, organizing paperwork, deleting old emails. The closets. Which are like their own dark abyss, from which tentacles of mess always seem to be sneaking towards me, from beneath the door. Nothing is safe during the season of clean. So tell me..... does the spring cleaning bug hit you this time of year as well?
I mean, I'm a fairly organized person regardless of the season. I give my place a good once-over at least twice a month, and am always in a constant state of "creative improvement", during which I try to maximize my productivity by creating an atmosphere where my space works for me and I don't work for my space!
But lately, the cleaning bug has been especially wiggly. We're planning a very involved glamping adventure (glamour camping, for those unfamiliar with the term) later this year, and our space has been invaded by canvas tents, awnings, grass mats, pillows, a bed frame. An actual bed frame. For camping. It's insane. My kids have to climb over an EZ Up canopy to get their clothes, and my 1000 square foot home seems unable to accommodate the accumulation of stuff.
So, in my effort to function, creatively, I've turned my attention to my work space. To creating an environment in which I can relax, breathe, meditate on my work, and enjoy. And, if I "accidentally" throw away stuff that just "happened" to be in my way. Well.... casualties of war, I say.
How to you handle your spring cleaning? Do you, like myself, embrace The Container Store with the fervor of an addict, or do you approach your space with the cavalier attitude of the carefree, and embrace the chaotic?
