February 2017 "Finish It!" Design Challenge: GALLERY OF ENTRIES

Say wha....? Over 60 beautiful, totally unique entries and every single one of them....

Blew. My. Mind.

But that's pretty much what I've come to expect from all you fabulous folks!
View the GALLERY OF ENTRIES
I've always enjoyed these contests because they detail exactly how versatile a single set of instructions can be, and how easily (or not, as the case sometimes is with creative endeavors) these steps can be utilized in one-of-a-kind design. And the difficulty or ease are always (I hope) well-rewarded with truly amazing work that each and every one of these entrants can be proud of. The above picture is my finished design...my vision behind the provided instruction, and the gallery of entries can be found here, for the perusal of entrants or casual observers alike, to see for yourself just how unique each entry is.

If you submitted an entry, but do not see it listed in the gallery, please email me at nikki.hanna@gmail.com with your entry as soon as possible, and it will be added immediately upon receipt.

The gallery of entries will be available for viewing… well… indefinitely or, at the very least, until Pinterest falls into the dark abyss of the internet, at which point the images will (hopefully) be moved to another file sharing system.

The gallery of entries will be available for VOTING, however, through April 15, 2017. Voting is open only to those who participated in the contest. To vote:

  • Please only one vote per participant.
  • Please use the word "VOTED" in the comments of the picture of your choice.
  • If, for any reason, you cannot place your vote yourself, contact nikki.hanna@gmail.com with your choice and I will vote on your behalf.

A note to non-participating viewers and commentators…. please reserve the term “VOTED” for participants only, to avoid confusion during the judging process, but do feel free to comment as a show of appreciation for the beautiful work submitted. These entries are worthy of the recognition they receive and then some.

On April 16, votes will be tallied and the “Group Favorite” (most voted by participants) will win my completed version of this project and any ten tutorials of their choice. In the case of a tie, I will place the deciding vote.

Also, a “Judged Favorite”, chosen by a panel of four jewelry artists and three “consumers” (who are not participating in the contest), will also receive any ten tutorials of their choice.

Every contestant should receive the finished version of this tutorial as a thank you for his or her participation, within 24-48 hours. If you have not received the tutorial by that time, or have trouble accessing the file, please contact me at nikki.hanna@gmail.com

Thank you all so much!

Happy weaving!
Nicole

Thank you so much for hosting the contest! I have learned so much from the experience and am very thankful.

First...designing is HARD! I started over so many times, I don't even care to count. I did finish one a couple of weeks ago but was not happy with it. But, bonus! TWO, count 'em, two finished pieces that are my very own. I have never done that before and it feels so good!

The second thing I learned is that I really need to take a photography class. And buy a camera. And get some photo editing software. Or get someone else to take the picture next time. Oof.

Lastly, I learned that at least some advance planning is going to be necessary for me. Sketching, yarn mock up, something. I broke my wire several times after trying to undo an area several times because I didn't like where it was going.

I am thrilled that I did, in fact, Finish It! This was a huge accomplishment for me. And, of course, I'm thrilled that I got another Nicole Hanna tutorial. Yay for me!

I am so glad you gave it a shot! And, even if difficult, it seems like you enjoyed the process and the results. Sometimes we can't ask for more than that, you know? I love days like that... when that sense of accomplishment sticks to me like glue. Those are good days.

What an awesome group! I love looking at all the different ideas. Thank you so much for this opportunity. It shows that once someone has a great foundation then there are so many ways to explore and have different result in the end. My next endeavor is to experiment with the oxidation. :)

Thank you Nicole, for this wonderful inspiring contest.
Everyone did a wonderful job on their pendant. I'm having a very difficult time trying to pick my favorite.
This is exactly what I needed to work harder on creating my own design. It wasn't easy. The ideas I had didn't work out as well as I expected. I made three different pendants and finally submitted the first one.
This is the first time that I've ever antiqued one of my silver pieces. I just love bright silver. But I'm pleased with the result. This is brought a whole new dimension to my work.
Thank you so much.

I loved them all, it was so hard to choose.
I really enjoyed this challenge. I actually made 6, had them narrowed down to 3 and still couldn't decide on my entry...so I made a Facebook contest and had my people help me choose which would be my submission. I did have some trouble with people voting more than once, how do you deal with multiple votes? I had to throw those votes out since the guidelines weren't followed.
Thank you so much for your encouragement and inspiration!

Oh my goodness! Choosing only ONE design as my favorite is confounding me. I'm so impressed with the number outstanding designs.

Thank you, Nicole, for designing this contest. It's the second time I've entered, and I've had so much fun and derived a great deal of inspiration from it.

It took me a few days to come up with only one vote, so many talented artist. Nicole, thank you so much for this, I have watched your "finish It" contest and have always been so impressed with the entries and have always been too intimidated to try. This time I jumped in and found it to be so much fun!!! I also learned I needed to learn a bit about photography as my picture turned out so dark. So I watched your video, downloaded PhotoScape, and am now leaning that. Thank you for all you do.

Nicole,
Thank you for sharing your inspiration and talent. I love the concept of these contests. I have many of your tutorials and it is daunting to try and come up with my own designs - much easier to follow ones that I know work out into beautiful pieces. Contests such as this push me outside that comfort zone and by doing so I have learned that I can come up with my own designs (based on all the techniques I have learned from you). Thank you so much for your generosity, teachings and inspiration.
It is fun (and intimidating) to see all the different and wonderful designs created starting from the same basic beginning steps. I am having a difficult time choosing my favorite.
You have so much to teach us all, not only about the art of wire weaving and photography, but also about being an overall good person. The term "generosity of spirit" is how I would describe you.
I looked up the phrase just to make sure I was using it correctly and according to this, I am.

I feel very lucky to have "met" you through your website and blogs.
Thank you for all you do and all you are.
