2017 and Setting Intentions

I've never been much a fan of the whole New Year's "resolutions" trend. Something about the word resolutions lends itself to negativity. Like it's such a horrible thing to give up smoking, drop a few pounds, work harder, achieve goals that you have to be "resolute" about it. That makes it sound like such a chore, doesn't it?

And it doesn't have to be! Nope. I much prefer the phrase "setting intentions". It has a happier ring to it, don't you think? And lately, all across social media, I've been seeing posts regarding your intention-setting word for 2017.

Mine is SIMPLIFY. And yes, to those who follow me on Facebook, this means I will not be buying new metal clay supplies this year, new planners, batches of cabochons and beads.  Why? Because there are still oodles of things I have yet to discover with wire, and I think I owe it to myself take that journey further. I have pounds of wire still sitting here, still unused through all of 2016, and I can't wait to get started with it!

What is your word for 2017?
"The new year stands before us, like a chapter in a book, waiting to be written. We can help write that story by setting goals." - Melody Beattie
As well all know, 2016 had it's fair share of disappointments and challenges, many of which seemed to be expressed world wide. But it was also full of inspiration, successes and enjoyment of the little things in life that make life really worth living. I want to thank you all for being part of that with me, for sharing in my journey, supporting my craft and, as a result of that, supporting my family!

I made some of my favorite pieces this year that I'm happy to say have all found their forever homes where I hope they are as loved as they were while I created them. I enjoyed time with my photography and got to shoot senior photos.... and lots and lots of cat photos, much to the chagrin of my pets. I started an additional blog to discuss spirituality and pulled out my art supplies for the first time in what seemed like forever!

And I've made some amazing connections through my business and hobbies that I will always cherish. Thank you.

Thank you for being there.

I hope to see you in 2017. Happy New Year, everyone!

And happy weaving!

My word for the he new year is Change. Especially as we will be moving back to Michigan in the new year. So our life will be full of changes. So exciting and some scary.

Good word! Seeing as how I'm in Michigan, maybe we'll be neighbors!

That's always a powerful word in my book, and I totally get what you mean about allowing that word to manifest itself in all areas of your life. I love it!

Nicole, I always enjoy reading anything that you write, the style, so entertaining while still getting even the most serious of viewpoints across clearly. Not only do I enjoy the writing, but it doesn't quite come to the level of my enjoyment of your wire weaving, nor to your beadwork, Most impressive, however, is you, yourself! You are so kind and approachable, to say nothing of your generosity, a quality not so common these days. Thank you for all of those wonderful gifts that you give so freely.
I don't really work with the wire, although I did work my way through and into a couple of books on the basics, readying myself for creating a real piece of art. I don't know if it will be my year for much, I've been in hospital for over 16 months and a few days before Christmas, I was given the choice of having my one useful leg amputated to about the waist, or dying; then they shut offf all my antibiotics when I said no to the amputation.
It isn't that I'm a weak person, I am not, it's just that I have been fighting for 30 years, the , asr 13 of which I've had over 30 surgeries which all were accomplished with miistakes that required more surgery. So who knows what or for how long.
I just read the bit about a second blog, but can't find it. Where is it? Another quick question is regarding your newsletter...I signed up with this same email, but haven't yet received one. I hope to be reading your words soon!

Catherine, you are definitely not a weak person you are a very strong person, it's a hard thing to go through, what you are going through and much courage. Blessings to you, prayers.

I agree with Brenda! You're exhibiting great strength!

I've had just a few issues with the newsletter not sending, but I think if you had nicole@nicolehannajewelry.com to your contacts that seems to fix the problem for the most part.... so many email providers now like to immediately blog emails they deem as "spam", and sometimes they don't even make it to a spam folder!

My other blog is www.pointsoffivetarot.com though I admit I've been rather inactive there during the last couple months while I prepared for Christmas with this site, but I've got a whole bunch of new spiritually-minded topics to discuss there this month!

Good morning and Happy New Year !!

I just now tried twice to download the 'gentle waves PDF' - only to be told [by my phone - Samsung galaxy] that it is an invalid file. Darn. I was looking forward to trying something new. =>/<=

Hi Susan! Have you tried from a computer yet? I have a galaxy too and sometimes it just doesn't want to work properly. If you still have trouble, though, let me know.

Happy New Year and new start to your future! Moving isn't fun but wrapping up stuff helps calm the nerves for me. I am always looking for inspiration and even tho I will never be able to do what you do, I am enjoying seeing your work. YOU inspire me to expand my boundaries! I can't thank you enough for that. You are truly a blessing!

Happy New Year to you as well! I agree about moving for sure, but I admit I always feel a little clean and fresh after a move... even if I'm just moving rooms! It's hard work, but it can be rewarding. I'm glad you've enjoyed my content so far!

Nicole, Thanks so much for all the wonderful tutorials and your blog. My first experience with beads was bead stringing which evolved into beadweaving primarily with Delicas which is still my passion. You have been my primary inspiration with wire weaving. I'm satisfied with what I have made so far, but will be happier with it when I can do my own designs. So that is what I am striving for in 2017. I live outside of a small town in Ontario, Canada and the nearest bead store is 1.5 hours away. This makes getting supplies and/or taking classes in person somewhat awkward. Your tutorials are fantastically easy to follow. When I make a mistake I just change the design a but to fit what I have done. So far, so good.

I wish you, your family, your friends and admirers, and your cats, a 2017 that exceeds all your hopes and expectations.

Thanks for everything.

Renee

I totally sympathize about the lack of bead stores. All our local ones closed and the nearest is also about 1.5 hours from me, which isn't usually feasible since we've opted to be a one-car household (lowering our carbon footprint and all). But I'm glad you're able to follow my tutorials easily! I hope you'll share with me the pieces you make through the year!

Happy New Year! I began to think of my word and several came up. But after giving it a lot of thought I decided on "intrepid".

A google search found:
in·trep·id
inˈtrepəd/
adjective
fearless; adventurous (often used for rhetorical or humorous effect).
"our intrepid reporter"
synonyms: fearless, unafraid, undaunted, unflinching, unshrinking, bold, daring, gallant, audacious, adventurous, heroic, dynamic, spirited, indomitable; More
antonyms: timid
Origin

late 17th century: from French intrépide or Latin intrepidus, from in- ‘not’ + trepidus ‘alarmed.’
Translate intrepid to
Use over time for: intrepid

I continue to be inspired by you.

My word is determination :)

I am wondering if you plan on making a tutorial for the style of the two pendants you currently have available for sale in your shop (the multiple stones in one piece style). They are so beautiful, I would LOVE to learn how to do that!!!

Thank you so much for your generosity, I got new wire for Christmas and thanks to your awesome Treasure Hunt I have made three Sugar Skulls and two Gentle Waves pendants in the last week...had so much fun, absolutely love your style!!! So much love to you!!! <3

Determination is a great word or motto to live by!

I will likely reserve the multi-stone techniques for in-person local workshops. I hope to have workshops lined up for 2018 or perhaps sooner if I can find a venue.

I think goals for the New Year, something to work toward, but not rule my life. I only found your site recently and you have inspired my own work. The book is slow going as I continually think of new things to include, but that is the "goal" for this year, to get it completed. Will definitely get you a galley when ready as you were king enough to ask and would like your opinion, but it will be a while. Are you no longer selling PDF tutorials? I love looking at your work and seeing new designs, but could not locate them. My own website is slow going in development (ok, husband is working on it, but now that he is retired, takes his time!). Am rambling, sorry, but having found jewelry as an artistic outlet I enjoy interaction with others. I used to paint and draw before age got to my eyes so when I found this outlet, it was a joy to create again. Perhaps that is a good word for the New Year rather than goal, create all that can be done in the coming year.

Create is a pretty all-encompassing word, isn't it, and very positive. One of my favorite words of all time.

Found the shop! Sorry, really early here and still half asleep. Moved from home (San Francisco born and bred) to Washington and cannot get used to the SNOW, cold wakes me up. And I have been rather rude in not wishing you a HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I'm glad you found it. I'm making changes to my site this month as well, slowly but surely, so things will likely get moved around at some point or another.

I hope you're starting your New Year off well!

I like that this year's theme for you is to simplify. I'm in the process of decluttering myself and keeping things simple at home and with my jewelry making. Good luck to us and happy New Year!
